The new variants of Coronavirus, which is infinitely more contagious than the previous strains, have inflated the number of new cases diagnosed in the region from 375 to 735 in the last five days.
The number of active cases registered in Calasparra over the past seven days has risen from eight to 11. There are 34 active cases in Caravaca; 37 in Cehegin; and 14 in Bullas.
Although the new variants are reported to be much milder the «at risk groups» (ie. the over 60´s) are being recomendad to use masks in interior spaces and anywhere where social distancing is not possible.
In patient numbers in the region are slightly down from 204 five days ago to 198 but, sadly, another person has died of the virus.
