CORVERA AIRPORT WILL NOT OPEN IN 2015

Despìte the fact that the new airport at Corvera has been ready to open for some years legal wrangling between the former contractors and the regional autonomous Government of Murcia and problems with the closure of San Javier are causing further delays.
The management of the new airport was supposed to go out to tender this month, February, but the former contractors, Sacyr, have failed to provide an inventory without which the tendering process cannot go ahead.
The closure of San Javier is one of the conditions imposed by the EU for the opening of Corvera and the Ministry of Promotion has agreed to the closure. The regional Goverment and AENA, the airport authority, are meeting today to discuss the transfer of flights from San Javier to Corvera. However the San Javier workers are refusing to consider transferring to the new airport.
According to the regional Goverment there are at least six businesses interested in running Corvera including AENA but the if the regional Government need to resort to legal action to obtain the necessary documentation from the former contractors, Sacyr, this could delay the opening of the airport until next year.
