If you ring an 806 number in response to a promotional text on your mobile offering concessions or free gifts it could prove “very detrimental to your purse and to your confidence as a consumer,” warns the Consumer Association of Murcia, UCE.
The Association has announced that during the last few months it has received “a considerable volume” of complaints concerning promotional texts which offer concessions if the caller rings an 806 number. On this number the caller is subjected to a survey which lasts several minutes and is charged at a tariff rate. The communication is cut off just before the maximum time permitted by the law for these type of telephone lines.
UCE indicates that the 806 number was used previously in a similar operation offering fraudulent employment posts.
The Association recommends consumers exercise “extreme caution and prudence” before responding to these “supposed offers.”
