A strike by the clothing, textile and footwear stallholders on today´s market in Calasparra is likely to continue into next week after a meeting between representatives and the Mayor failed to reach agreement.
By 10.30am this morning stalls in the non food section had still not been mounted in protest against the 80% rise in pitch charges which market traders claim is “unsustainable.”
Representatives who had a short meeting with the Mayor of Calasparra this morning also claim the “splitting up” of the food and non food sections to different parts of the town centre has resulted in a slump in trade.
“Before the move we were selling practically nothing,” they claim.
The food and vegetable market in the Plaza de los Abastos has opened as usual this morning.
