CLIMATE CHANGES THREATENS THE MURCIA REGION

Parts of the Murcia region could become deserts by the end of the 21st century if CO2 emissions are not reduced dramatically and rise in temperatures is not maintained at less than 1.5 degrees.
This is the view of climate experts currently meeting at the Climate Summit in Marrakech.
The consequences of climate change in the mediterrenean basin is demonstrated by the lack of fresh water. The water reserves are expected to be between 15 and 20% less by 2050.
According to the experts, the increase in temperatures is extending the dry period in the Mediterrenean, and there is less and less rainfall. This rainfall also tends to evaporate because of the increase in temperatures.
The temperature has increased by five tenths more than the world average, rising by some 1.3 degrees compared to 0.85 degrees in 1985.
