A week of total madness returns to Calasparra with the annual carnival terminating in adult fancy dress at midnight next weekend.
Carnival was actually banned under Franco who clearly didn´t like the idea of people doing and saying things they wouldn´t do or say if people could recognise them.: the whole point of the carnaval especially in a small town where everyone knows everyone!! Whatever the reason Calasparrians readily embrace the chance to be anonymously mad once a year and, if you are prepared to stay up late enough, there are marvels to behold.
The programme for the week is as follows:_
Saturday March 1: Children´s Carnival to mark the end of the spring term organised by the Parents Association at the Esperanza Primary School. 6pm Youth Centre.
Wednesday March 4: Carnival Parade organised by the local schools. 4.30pm Plaza de la Corredera. Followed by a Children´s Spectacular with Pepica and the Bichejos in Cine Rosales. Entrance free.
Saturday March 8: Fancy Dress Competition organised by the Town Hall in the Plaza de la Corredera. Very late.
