A fire in the Cerro Gordo, Caravaca is controlled and stable, according to fire crews, but is still not extinguished.
Fire crews are likely to spend the rest of the day on the mountain before the fires is declared “out.”
The cause is believed to be a lightening strike which started a fire yesterday (Thursday) afternoon.
Another fire in the Serrata de Caneja has been put out by fire crews who remain in the area as a preventative measure.
The emergency services act rapidly when they receive a call to 112 reporting a column of smoke. Rapid intervention can prevent an environmental disaster.
