CALASPARRA PUTS UP ANTI FRACKING POSTERS

It is some time since Calasparra Town Hall declared Calasparra a “Fracking Free Zone,” despite the outstanding licences granted by the regional government for the area.
Now, as part of the anti-fracking movement, the Town Hall is beginning to put up protest posters all over the local area.
Over the weekend more than 50 people joined the Bikes Against Fracking demonstration, starting from Socovos, passing through Cehegin and Cieza and finishing up in Murcia.
The demo was organized by the Anti-Fracking Platform (Plataforma Cuenca del Segura Libre de Fracking), to protest against hydraulic fracturing, which, they claim, presents a “serious danger” to the local economy, will put underground water supplies at risk and increase the risk of earthquakes.
Other areas covered by the licences, “Leo” and “Escorpio,” are Hellín (Albacete), Jumilla, Cieza, Moratalla and Cehegín.
The Head of the Department of Environment, Ricardo Garcia, represented Calasparra at the protest.
