Thousands of residents are still living in Red Cross camps in Lorca, unable to return to their homes which have been destroyed or severely damaged by the earthquake in May. Many others are living with relatives or friends outside the town because they are too afraid to return to their homes.
Many have lost everything and it is still not clear who will pay for the reconstruction of their homes.
There have been football matches, concerts by international and national stars, bull fights and other charitable events all over Spain to raise funds for the victims of Lorca and now it is our turn in Calasparra to lend a helping hand.
Tomorrow, Saturday July 2, local people have volunteered to “do a turn” in the Cine Rosales for Lorca under the slogan “We are all Lorca” and in recognition of the fact that it could have been us, just a few miles away from the epicenter of the earthquake.
A ticket for the Gala costs just 3 euros and all the funds will go to help the victims. But this event is about much more than money. It is a chance to show our support for ordinary people caught up in this natural disaster which has changed their lives forever. It is an opportunity to show solidarity with Lorca and support the local acts who will give their all on Saturday night in the name of charity.
