ANSE, the Association of Naturalists of the South East, have used volunteers from the local Work Camp to place 21 boxes in the rice fields to encourage bats as a means of biologically controlling mosquitoes.
Some 200 boxes will be installed in total with the collaboration of the Water Board, the Town Hall, the Flor of Calasparra rice company, and the rice cooperative, Virgin de la Esperanza.
The wood was supplied by Leroy Merlin of Cartegena and was prepared for the volunteers by Francisco Jose Pagan Monteagudo. The volunteers made the boxes.
