The environmental action group, ANSE, in cooperation with the local Department of the Environment, installed bat nesting boxes in the trees at the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Hope On Saturday as a natural method of fly control.
The boxes had been decorated by local school children during June as part of an environmental project.
Nesting boxes have already been installed along the river Segura and bats have begun nesting and breeding.
These mammals consume an enormous amount of flies and other insects, such as mosquitos, and represent part of a project to try and biologically control the plague of insects suffered in Calasparra this year.
