A cheque from the Department of Education for 15,000 euros means the High School Emilio Pérez Piñero in Calasparra can pay the electricity and heating bills.
The 15,000 euros is a fraction of the 80,000 euros owed to the school but has provided some temporary relief to the Director who was being forced to choose between paying the electrIcity bill or switching off the heating.
The school budget has been cut by 40% since 2010 when it stood at 130,000 euros. The school must now manage on 80,00 euros but, as the Director points out, the problem is not so much the reduction in the budget so much as the late payment of funds.
