The cessation of Spanair and the grounding of all flights from the weekend has affected some 22.773 people according to the company´s sources.
The Consumers and Service Users Organisation (Organización de Consumidores y Usuarios OCU) advises passengers affected by the closure of the company to keep all their relevant documentation including boarding cards, booking confirmation, emails and any other information from the airline.
According to the OCU any passenger who has their flight cancelled has the right to automatic compensation of between 250 and 600 euros for each flight.
AENA recommends that passengers who hold tickets for a flight in the next few days contact Spanair on the free phone number 902 13 14 15 or through the webpage www.spanair.com.
Another consumer organization, Facua, (www.facua.org) remind customers that they can demand that Spanair organizes alternative flights or an alternative mode of transport to their destination and that Spanair are obliged to provide food, drink and accommodation during any waiting period. If the company fails to arrange alternative flights within three hours of the original flight the passenger has a right to compensation of between 125 and 600 euros.
