Everyone is invited to take part in a no smoking week this week from yesterday, Monday, to Saturday, as part of an awareness raising campaign organised by GAT, the anti smoking group, and the Murcian Society of Family Medicine (Smumfyc).
This is the 15th Week Without Smoking organised by the groups and this year the focus i son the damage suffered by children who inhale smoke.
According to campaigners when parents smoke the worst affected are their children partly because of the health imnplications of inhaling smoke and partly because they are more likely to grow up into smokers.
Health risks include increasing the risk of miscarriage and premature birth or babies with low weight. The risk of cot death syndrome is also increased.
Children of smokers are more likely to suffer respiratory problems, serious asthma conditions, and ear infections.
