A PERIOD OF ANONIMITY AND TOTAL MADNESS

Yes, the Carnival in Calasparra is fast approaching and preparations are underway for a week of activities and a night of total madness.
Traditionally the Carnival, or more correctly the night of the Carnival, is an opportunity for the residents of the town to disguise themselves and pass unrecognized, for once, in this small rural town. Rumour has it that even the local police have dressed in fishnet tights on carnival nights in the past!
In a town where everyone knows everyone and your business is everyone´s business a night of anonymity is an open invitation to many residents to let their hair down without becoming the main topic of the day.
The adult education centre, the Universidad Popular, is running a workshop for people who want to make their own costumes alternatively there will be plenty available to buy or hire.
You will need to be a night owl to catch the fun! The prize for the best fancy dress, individual and group, is awarded after midnight. Participants are required to pass through the centre of the town during the late dark hours in order that the judges can reach their decision.
The Carnival this year is from February 20 to 26. Advance notice of Carnival events will appear on this webpage.
