The model crypt or nativity scene (Belen or Nacimiento) is a traditional part of Christmas in the region of Murcia and in Calasparra the local anNual competition for the best model is hard fought.
Shops and businesses display models in their windows and local people mount amazing models in their homes. All through the year people collect pieces or make tiny people or animals for their entry.
Often the scenes include local activities, traditional crafts, agriculture and local products and monuments, beauty spots and buildings are often featured.
Maybe this year we could see an entry from the British/EU community living in Calasparra!!
Here are the rules published today by the Sancutary which is organising the competititon.
Anyone can participate in the competition: individuals, groups etc.
Anyone interested can sign on at the Sancuary office in Calasparra, Calle de Socovos 8, until Wednesday December 18 at 2pm by giving their name, address and telephone number and indicating whether they will make a “crypt” or a “nativity scene.”
There wil be three prizes for each category.
The names of the jury will be published before their decision.
The prizes will be presented at the Municpal Auditorium on Friday January 3 at 8pm.
