Today it was confirmed that the bout of “stomach bugs” are in fact food poisoning and the source has been traced to a local butcher.
According to to the Director General of Public Health at CARM the source has been “found, totally controlled and disinfected”.
Residents are advised to observe very strict higiene, especially washing hands thoroughly after going to the toilet or before and after touching food stuffs to avoid the spread of the infection.
Generally the most common food contaminated are animal products such as chicken, eggs, beef and milk. However, vegetables may be contaminated as well so it is recommended that readers wash and thoroughly cook vegetables before eating them and, if you are eating raw vegetables, to wash them with extreme care.
