The cancellation of the traditional children’s carnival parade has not put a dampener on plans for a grand Carnival in Calasparra!
Although the children will celebrate their carnival in their education centres behind closed doors, apparently due to the financial pressures of the economic crisis, and the Easter Parade has been cancelled, there are frills and fun for everyone thanks to the Town Hall’s Carnival programme.
There is also a chance for the night owls amongst you to dress up and compete for the first prize in the Best Fancy Dress Competition which will be presented at 2am in the Zona de Ocio (Recinta Ferial). All you need to do is wander about the centre of town in your fancy dress around midnight so the judges can see you and then turn up and see if you have won.
There are two group prizes: 1st, 150 euros and 2nd, 100 euros. Individual prizes are first,75 euros and second, 50 euros.
The adult Carnival is a good spectator sport for those who don´t feel like dressing up. Calasparra goes completely mad and literally anything goes! It is impossible to recognize most people, which is largely the point of the exercise, and you will see some very strange sights indeed.
