The full Town Hall council meeting has unanimously voted in favour of the Socialist/United Left motion to pay homage to seven local victims of the nazis and to erect a memorial in their honour.
The meeting also agreed to get in contact with the families of the victims to inform them of the agreement.
Of the seven victims, four died in concentration camps and three who were liberated from Mauthausen, Austria by the Americans, although nothing is known of their fate.
The Republican Group Assdociation 14.4, the driving force behind the motion, says: “It is Just to recognise those who lost their lives for freedom and to honour the memory of those who crossed the Pirinese to join the forces whihc fought against Hitler.”
It is proposed to inaugurate a memorial monolith in the Casa de la Cultura on April 14.
Calasparrians Liberated from the Mauthausen Concentration Camps by US on 5.5.1945 were:
Angel Sanchez Lopez; Gabriel Navarro Sanchez; and Mariano Fernadanez Fernandez.
