The Government Delegate for the Murcia region and the Mayors of Cieza and Calasparra visited the construction site for the four million euro Interpretation Centre being constructed in the Almadenes Canyon to “give an impulse to tourism in the canyon and in the towns of Cieza and Calasparra.
Construction work on the Centre is described as “at an advanced stage.”
This pioneering project, which is both environmentally sustainable and energetically independent, is totally integrated into the landscape with nature forming part of the construction work. The building forms part of the regional Plan to Promote Tourism in the Almadenes.
The Government Delegate, González Tovar said: “This centre will turn into the management centre for all tourist, environmental and educational activities organized in this protected space.”
Sporting and cultural activities in nearby Cieza and Calasparra, which complement the facilities and activities in the Canyon, will be promoted through the Interpretation Centre.
Funding for the Centre has been split between the central and regional Governments and the Town Halls of Cieza and Calasparra.
The building will include a visitors’ centre, function halls, activity halls and storage space for sports equipment, a cafeteria and public parking facilities.
