FOUR MILLION EURO PROJECT TO MODERNIZE IRRIGATION WATER SYSTEM

The half a million euro restoration work on the El Esparragal irrigation water canal, aimed at saving water, was officially inspected by the Mayor Calasparra, Jesus Navarro, and  the President of the Segura Water Confederation, Charo Quesada yesterday.

The work has been funded by the Ministry of Environment, Countryside and Sea and consists of rendering 350 metres of the canal impermeable. The farmers should benefit immediately as the canal will not lose water and will be clear of sediments.

This project is part of the emergency work being carried out to improve the irrigation water system and will include the modernization of 8,200 metres of canal in the Vega Alta.

The project to modernize Calasparra’s irrigation water system will cost a total of four million euros. Work on the following canals has already been completed:  Acequia de Peralejo (495 metres), acequia de Rotas (420 metres), acequia de Maeso-Minas y Bayo (up to 630 metros) and another canal in  El Esparragal, of 565 metres.
