The University Polytechnic of Cartagena (UPCT) are currently examining the third piece of space debris found by a hunter´s dog on the Sierra del Molino.
The fragment, thought to be part of a fuel deposit from a space craft, has a perimeter of 200 centimetres, a diameter of about 70 centimetres and weighs around 15 kilos.
Technicians from the Technical Investigation Support Service of UPCT and the National Reference Centre of Professional Training are investigating the composition of the material of the sphere as well as the material which covers it.
The results of these analyses are of special interest because they may allow experts to understand the behaviour of these materials when subjected to extreme conditions of re-entry into the earth´s atmosphere. It is evident that the object experienced temperatures of more than 1,500 degrees centigrad which caused a “fusión.”
