STORMS BRING BRIEF RESPITE FROM DROUGHT AND FOREST FIRES

Today is a fiesta in Calasparra, the Day of the Local Patron Saints, and it is raining but it is unikely you will hear anyone complain!!
July has been a month of sweltering heat with local temperatures up to 47 degrees centigrade. The Health Centre and the hospitals have been treating patients with sunstroke; the reservoirs are at aN all time low; and the heat and lack of rain has transformed mountain slopes into a tinderbox, with three forest fores in the last couple of days.
However, this morning, Thursday, brought the rain, torrential rain, and a drop in temperatures to 33 or 34 centigrade.
According to the Met Office the storms could continue sporadically through tomorrow, although today by midday, the sun should reappear and temperatures may rise again. Tomorrow may also be hot, according to forecasts but by the weekend it should be dry with pleasant temperatures in the early 30´s.
Although the heat is expected to return by Monday forecasts are for a cooler August after one of the hottest months of July on record.
