Three fire fighting helicopters and fire brigades from Calasparra, Jumilla and Cehegin are currently fighting a forest fire in the Esparragal area just below the Molino.
Fire fighters are tackling the blaze on three fronts as they battle against strong afternoon gusts typical of these scorching days in Calasparra.
The fire appeared to take hold around mid afternoon, around 4.30pm, as the sirens of the emergency services headed towards Esparragal. Within half an hour three helicopters were on the scene, scooping up wáter from the river Segura and dumping it on the blaze.
At the time of writing this article, 6.19pm, the fire was declared as under control. Helicopters have been damping down areas at the foot the Molino in an effort to stop the fire spreading up the slopes.
