The Mayor of Calasparra, José Vélez, has announced a summer programme called “Nights At the Castle” for the Open Theatre in Calasparra beginning this weekend.
The aim of the programme, according to the Mayor, is to “give value to the beautiful and unique space” and “to maximize its cultural and artistic potential.” He added that this was one of the goals of the Town Hall.
The Head of the Department of Culture, Teresa Garcia, announced that the first concert would be this weekend, Friday July 17, when the Regional Youth Orchestra would perform an inaugural concert at 9.30pm.
August 21 will be the Day of the Local Artist in Calasparra and there will be an art exhibition at the Open Theatre.
On August 29 the Festival of Antique Music will be held at the Theatre with an instrumental group, which specialises in Meiddle Age and Renassiance music, La Danserye.
In order to facilitate access to the theatre the Town Hall is putting on a permanent minibus service which leaves from the St Peter´s Church Square at 8.30pm.
The programme, Nights at the Castle, will be a focus of interest on these torrid summer nights. The theatre is a singular space due to its location in the rocks below the summit of St José, alongside the Castle. It is an open air arena in a beautiful place with spectacular views of the river Segura and the paddy fields. The step seating will accommodate 600 spectators in a semicircle formation.
