WATER LEVELS IN RESERVOIRS AT HIGHEST LEVEL FOR 30 YEARS

The Water Confederation has announced the “golden era of water” as reservoirs in the Segura basin reach the highest level in 30 years.

The basin has some 779 hectometres of water reserves and its reservoirs stand at an average of 68% capacity, according to data released by the Confederation.

The situation is an improvement on last year when heavy rains brought water levels up to 628 hectometres.

Of the existing 779 hectometres some 110 hectometres comes from an agreed “water transfer” (known as the Trasvase) from the River Tajo.

The Cenajo Reservoir, the biggest in the Segura Basin, currently contains 336 hectometres of water and stands at 77% of its capacity, its highest level since the 1970s.
