THIRTY PERCENT INCREASE IN TOURISM IN CALASPARRA

There has been a 30% increase in the number of tourists visiting Calasparra over the last two years, according to statistics released by the local Tourist Office.
The Tourist Office recorded 10.324 visits from 6.324 and around 4,000 people used the information point at the Sanctuary.
This represents a 30% increase since 2013: 82% Spanish tourist s and 18% foreign tourists. Most of the domestic tourists came from Murcia, Alicante, Madrid and Albacete and most of the foreign tourists from the UK although France and Germany also feature in the statistics.
Statistics reflect that visitors were attracted by local cultural events and fiestas such as the bull fighting, the pilgrimage to the Sanctuary, the musuems, the paddy fields, activities in Cañón de Almadenes, the Puerto Cave, the Ruta de la Tapa and local gastronomy.
“We are on the right path given that significant local tourist and environmental projects have been developed in the area which identify Calasparra as a tourist destination,” says Head of the Tourist Office, Maria Dolores Gomariz. “ We must keep moving in the same direction and involve the local bars and restaurants in order to attract more visitors,” she added.
