Despite a decision to resolve the crisis affecting the dining room at the Esperanza Primary School it remained closed this week and parents mounted another demonstration.
Following 17 days without a school dinner service the parent/teacher association (AMPA) has held another demonstration at the school gates. They claim they have received no answer to their complaint from the regional government and demanded an immediate solution, particularly for the children who qualify for free school meals.
At the full meeting of the Town Hall Council recently the Head of the Education Department was empowered to find a solution to the problem. In the same motion the Town Hall asked if other schools could use the dining room service.
The school meals service at the primary schoolk is the only one in Calasparra. The problems have arisen following a sharp increase in the price of school meals by the current service provider which AMPA claim puts the meals beyond the reach of most families.
The Association has asked the Town Hall to find a cheaper service provider, possibly from the local area.
