URGENT ACTION TO SAVE SANCTUARY TERRACES

Technicians from the Regional Directorate of the Environment went to the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Hope on Tuesday to see for themselves the damage caused by recent flooding.
The terraces at the Sanctuary were flooded for the second time last week due to the river Segura bursting its banks as water flooded down from Albacate after the storms. They were flooded for the first time in April 2013 causing considerable damage to the infrastructure and the loss of several trees.
The Head of the General Directorate of the Environment, Juan de Dios Cabezas Cerezo and the Director of the Cañaverosa Nature Reserve, Martín López Sandoval, inspected the damage and agreed that urgent action was needed to save the terraces and avoid further damage..
