The municipal webpage has caught the imagination of the Calasparrians with more than 1,500 visits in the first month and more than 18 different projects proposed by residents.
At a special press conference to assess the first month of the webpage, which provides a public space for residents to suggest proejcts for their “perfect town, the Mayor of Calasparra, Jesus Navarro, declared “We are very satisfied with the level of interest and of citizen participation and we hope this is only the beginning.”
All the proposals received from residents appear under the appropriate category on the webpage and the Mayor has committed the Town Hall to actively support any “viable project.”
So far suggestions have ranged from expanding the Museum of Rice with more local artifacts, local history and culture to creating a prize named after a Calasparrian for “the best environmental studies student” in the region.
Referring to the environmental prize, which would be named after the famous local environmentalist, Miguel Angel Sanchez Sanchez, the Mayor suggested adding a “local prize for the defence of the environment.”
He also emphasized the plans for encouraging the breeding of traditional sheep and goats on mountain pastures, including San Miguel, and/or on land provided by the local authority.
He said residents had also made enquiries about the new Town Hall project which was “had been slowed rather than frozen due to the crisis”.
Referring to the new Anti Smoking legislation the Mayor said all applications for bars to mount outside terraces would be treated sympathetically.
Anyone who has a suggestion for the future of Calasparra or for some cultural or sports organization or event can contact the Mayor on imaginacalasparra.com. All proposals must be in Spanish.
