There were ugly scenes on Saturday when a group opposed to the modernisation of the irrigation systems in Calasparra broke into the Muncipal Auditorium, pushed the security guard to the floor and broke tables and other property intalled for the public vote.
They blocked both entrances to the Auditorium and an angry crowd refused to allow voters to enter.
The Guardia Civil were called to support the local police but they were unable to restore order or guarantee the safety of the voters so the voting was cancelled.
A new date has already been set for the vote on the Alternative Plan for the modernisation of the irrigation systems in the Municipal Auditorium on September 14.
However, any voter who does not want to vote in person on September 14 can photocopy their identity papers and lodge the copy and their vote with the Comunidad of Regantes in Gran Via any Tuesday or Thursday evening between 7 and 9pm.
