IT NEVER RAINS BUT IT POURS!

After months of virtual drought during the summer months the last days of August brought a great surprise: 52 litres of rainfall per square metre and temperaturas down into the 20’s.
Nobody remembers rainfall like this in Calasparra when 14 litres of rain per square metre fell between 10 and 11 am yesterday morning.
The emergency services were kept busy as basements and garages all over town flooded and the central drainage system was put to the test.
The rain was accompanied by a spectacular electric storm with thunder claps that rattled the windows out in the countryside.
The yellow alert for rain and storms continues into today, Friday, although the Met Office predicts more settled weather for the weekend.
