FRIDAY MARKET EXPECTED TO GO AHEAD

Even though the stallholders at Calasparra´s weekly market are in conflict with the Town Hall over an increase in pitch charges and the separation of the food and textiles sections this week´s market is expected to go ahead.
The owners of the food and vegetable stalls will take a final decisión tomorrow morning, the day of the market, but are not expected to strike.
However, regular shoppers will have noted there were less textile, clothing and footwear stalls at last week’s market and this is also likely to be the case this week.
Owners of the textile and footwear stalls have claimed their separation from the food and vegetable market has meant a significant drop in trade.
Despite the protests the food and vegetable section will be on the new site in the Plaza de los Abastos again tomorrow.
The Town Hall has defended the 80% increase in pitch charges as “in line with the rest of the
region.
