OVER THE COUNTER MEDICINES DOUBLE IN PRICE

National newspapers are reporting that some over the counter medicines, excluded from the prescription regime by the Government in September, have doubled in price.
The Ministry of Health has published a report on 417 health products which patients must now buy over the counter and has found that 30% are more expensive with products such as Flumil or Flutox, for catarrh, increasing by a massive 100%.
The pharmaceutical industry claims the increases are due to a drop in sales after the product s were excluded from the prescription regime.
The price increases affect medicines for “mild conditions” such as catarrh, diarrhea, cough medicines etc. Most have increased from around two euros to five to eight euros.
