TOWN HALL BACKS LANDOWNERS´ PROTEST

Local agricultural cooperatives, the Town Hall and landowners have attacked the proposed new regional Management Plan for Protected Spaces as out of touch with the needs of landowners and residents living in the country.
COAG Murcia, the Federation of Landowners Associations (FAPEN) and Calasparra Town Hall have joined forces to defend local agriculture.
At a meeting last week with landowners of property in the protected areas, LIC or ZEPA, it was alleged that the new regional proposals for conservation areas “did not take into account the landowners and the people who lived off the land and had caused considerable bad feeling in the countryside.”
The meeting was told that the Management Plan, which is currently subject to a consultation period, would “take thousands of hectares of land in any type out of productive activity, but especially agricultural.”
The details of the plan were published by the regional Government Committee in BORM dated December 21, 2012.
