Last night a new organizing committee was formed to run the local bullring and fiestas for the financial benefit of Calasparra.
Dissatisfaction with the current system of private management has been growing and culminated in the local bullfighting association, El Quite, boycotting publicity and ticket sales for the September fiestas of 2012 when two bullfighters cancelled at the last minute.
There has been a growing movement against the private management of the bull ring which has been exacerbated by alleged “poor management” which includes contracting and publicizing bull fighters who subsequently cancel after the tickets have been sold.
Last night an Organizing Committee of 40 members, with representatives of the Town Hall, local businesses and bars, local bull fighting associations, fans and local business people, formed four separate commissions with different roles.
José Vélez, Head of the local fiestas and Deputy Mayor, will head the Committee. Francisco García, President of the Taurean Associations of the region of Murcia, will be Coordinator, and Juan Carlos Marín, Vice President of El Quite, will be responsible for communications.
The first step has been taken towards constituting a Bull Fighting business at the bull ring. Next week there will be a meeting of fans and members of the bull fighting associations and meetings of the four new commissions.
One of the innovative ideas is to use the bull ring to stage alternative events between the bull fighting fiestas.
