The Calasparrian canoeist, Juan Martínez Rodríguez, has bee named as the Most Promising Under18 Sportsperson in the region of Murcia, in the XXXI Murcian Sports Awards.
Members of the Municipal Canoe Club of Calasparra, where Juan is a member, are expected to attend the award ceremony which will be this Friday, October 5, at 9pm in the Casa de la Cultura in Cehegin.
Juan, aged 17, born in Calasparra, will not be able to receive the award in person as he is training for the European and World Championships in Seu de Urgell. However, he is reported to be “delighted” with the prize.
Last year Juan obtained second place in the Spanish White Water Cup and this year he finished third. He has also taken part in the World Cup and obviously has a great future in front of him as a white water canoeist.
