Today and tomorrow mark the beginning of the second heat wave brining temperatures in the low 40’s to the region of Murcia.
The Met Office has issued a warning that a “mass of very hot air” is on its way from Africa bringing hot winds and temperatures of up to 42 degrees centigrade which will last until Sunday.
The Murcian Health Service has issued a Level 1 warning for the next few days.
Today temperatures are likely to reach a maximum of 33.7 centigrade and minimums of 21.9. Tomorrow this will rise to maximums of 36.5 and minimums of 22.3. The hottest day will be Friday when the maximum is expected to reach 42 and the minimums 23.3. Saturday will bring a slight drop with maximums of 41.8 centigrade and minimums of 24.4.
The Health Service reccommend avoiding exposure to direct sunlight; keeping cool and drinking plenty of liquids and eating fruit and vegetables.
Anyone taking medication who is worried or experiences unusual symptoms should contact the emergency number 112.
In order to avoid forest fires the Forestry Commission reminds residents to avoid lighting fires and littering with cigarette buts or glass bottles. Farmers are reminded to exercise special precautions with firs in the countryside and residents with barbecues.
The drop in temperatures next weekend will also be abrupt with predictions they will fall by four and eight degrees on Sunday. However, in the region of Murcia the drop will probably be of just two or three degrees.
Readers are reminded not to take exercise, work outside or walk during the heatwave and to wear suitable clothing, hats, sunglasses and sun cream during exposure to the sun.
