The regional Enviromental Public Prosecutor will investigate complaints from neighours and farmers against a plant in Calasparra that treats residues to the authorities for allegedly using «unauthorized materials».
Neighbours and farmers near the plant, close to the Puerta Cave, have reported uncovered ponds, noxious smells and liquid residues or leachates
reaching their properties near the old railway lines.
According to the reports approximately three kilometres before arriving at the plant there is «a smell of dead animals similar to a colony of dead pigs. Breathing is impossible at a distance», runs the complaint, «and close to the plant the smell makes your eyes water and the inside of your mouth itch»
These are some of the complaints reported to the Public Prosecutor, the Guardia Civil. the regional Department of the Environment and the CHS (Segura Water Board by neighbours and farmers near to the plant that treats and manages residues at Los Pontones.
Sources at Calasparra Town Hall state that they are not aware that the plant is using «unauthorized materials» but confirm that the Public Prosecutor has been informed.
The Town Hall also confirms that the Department of the Environment, which has the technical means to inspect, detect and evaluate this type of anomalies, had been informed, and, if required, can take the «opportune measures».
