The emblematic Mont Miguel still shows a bare flank and the Molino is still recovering from repeated fires that raged during summer nights.
The majority of forest fires in Spain are caused by negligence.
Today the Met Office has issued a plea to the public to help avoid more forest fires as the risk of fire in the countryside around Calasparra remains «extreme» due to the high temperatures and the uncontrolled growth of grass and shrubs due to the spring rains.
Facing this situation the Director of Plan Infomur, that fights against forest fires in the Murcia region, reminds us it is prohibited to light a fire in the «monte» or less than 500 metres from forest terrain . Residents should avoid any activity which could cause a spark or ember and thus a fire.
