According to the Presidente of the Denominación of Origen, José Martínez, 2024 has been «a spectacular year for Calasparra rice».
The President says some 70 percent of the 575 hectares planted this year has been harvested with the Bomba rice constituting 15% of the total plantation.
He added that the Balilla x Sollana and the Balilla x Sollana are now ecological:
«We are very content with the quality of the grain and the quantity harvested», he said.
Martínez also refers to the innovation and investigation work carried out in conjunction with the Murcian Institute of Investigation and Agricultural and Enviornmental Development to combat the pests and plagues that affect the rice using lavender, rosemary and thyme oils.
