The Segura Water Board (CHS) has repeated its warning to the region´s farmers who use traditional irrigation methods (the irrigation ditch network) not to plant winter crops as the weekend rainfall fails to alleviate the severe drought conditions.
During Friday evening and Saturday night there was torrential rain in various parts of the region including Calasparra where 24 litres fell per square metre and more than 20 litres fell at the Argos Reservoir in Cehegin.

As local farmers desperately demand other solutions the President of the Segura Basin, Mario Urrea, has announced that the reservoirs at the head of the Segura river: Camarillas, Talave, Fuensanta and Cenajo, are only eight centimetres away from «a state of dead water» which impedes the use of water for any other use than maintaining the ecological caudal of the river.
