It has been uncovered that here could be millions of unroadworthy vehicles could be in circulation nationally as two senior managers of the network of ITV (MOT) centres here in the region of Murcia have been arrested on charges of issuing fraudulent certificates.
According to regional newspapers “VIP” clients with imported vehicles paid up to 300 euros for false ITV certificates which should have cost 42,25 euros for diesel cars and 31,70 for petrol; 57 euros for lorries;33,95 euros for trailers; and 14,25 euros for motorcycles.
The certificates were issued for vehicles which, due to their size and characteristics, could not go the ITV Centres and which need to pass a “check” by an individual technical officer or a mobile ITV station.
The Director General of Industry, Energy and Mines, Juan N.P. and the owners of the Consulting and Gestion Administrativa, Enrique M.P. have been detained on suspicion of profiting from issuing ITV certificates to vehicles without the vehicles complying with statutory technical requirements. They will appear before Court No: 5 in Murcia.
There are already indications that the fraud has extended national as documentation indicates origins in Castilla-La Mancha, Baleares, Comunidad Valenciana and Andalusia, amongt others.
