The traditional «Semana Santa» (Easter Week) celebrations are almost upon us and it can be confusing as to which days are fiestas and which are not.
The first celebration is Palm Sunday on April 2, which obviously is a fiesta as it always falls on a Sunday.
More confusing is the rest of the week beginning Thursday April 7 (Holy Thursday) and Good Friday, April 8. These are fiesta days in the whole region of Murcia,
The four days from Holy Thursday to Easter Sunday may be taken as holidays (a bridge over the non fiesta day, Saturday) in the Murcia region so it is possible shops, stores and businesses will be closed. They will certainly be closed for the two official fiesta days (Thursday and Friday). although bars and restaurants usually stay open.
Easter Sunday on April 9 is a fiesta day, however, there is no fiesta day on the following Monday.
