AIR SUPPORT WITHDRAWN AS JUMILLA FIRE ESTABLISHED

At 8pm last the massive fire in La Patoja, Jumilla, with a perimiter of more than 11 kilometres, was declared  «established».
The fire affected 400 hectares; 180 in the Murcia region and 220 in Castilla La Mancha.
According to Emergency Control Centre on site: «Prudence will be maintained due to the possible changes in the wind and storms expected in the area.»
During last night 90 people remained at the site of the fire plus 18 land emergency vehicles, 14 fire engines, three supplementary water deposit vehicles and a bulldozer.
The UME, national defence force, also maintained 54  officers on site to create a perimiter, refresh the North East and South East areas, and provide support for the team.
Ex Mayor of Calasparra and Government Delegate in Murcia, Jose Velez,  at the site of the fire, declared he was «optimistic» that the fire would be controlled within the next few hours.
The fire as caused by a lightning strike in the early hours yesterday morning and, due to the strong winds, spread rapidly.
The UME was called in yesterday afternoon when the fire, in an area of with poor access, had been declared a Level 2 Emergency and the weather had deteriorated further.
