The electric storm in the early hours of this morning has set the region alight again with a massive fire in Jumilla and another on the border with Calasparra.
The second fire began in the Sierra del Puerto in Hellin but spread rapidly to the frontier with Calasparra.
Fire fighters from Castilla la Mancha were joined by forest brigades from Calasparra and Moratalla in an effort to prevent the fire spreading to Cieza. However, at 4am this morning those forces had to withdraw in order to fight the massive fire in Jumilla which had already burned 300 hectares and stretched along a perimeter of eight kilometres by 11am this morning.
The origin of the fire was probably an electrical apparatus hit by lightning during the storm and aggravated by strong winds.
The fire in Jumilla was also caused by a lightning strike in La Patoje, Jumilla, in the early hours of the morning.
More than 100 fire fighters are in the scene, two amphibian planes and five helicopters. Seven forest brigades, the Civil Protection and the local police are also present.
The fire has been declared Level 2 Emergency and the latest news is that the situation is extremely grave and is worsening,
