The predictions of medical experts, reported in Nexonr a week ago, that the seventh wave of coronavirus would see a fall in cases amongst the over 60´s and less hospitalizations, appear to be confirmed by Wednesday´s statistics published by the regional health authority.
The seventh wave is upon us and, according to medical experts, everyone or almost everyone is likely to catch it as mass events and fiestas are in high season and the new strain, the BA2 variant of Omicron, is extremely contagious.
Although, regrettably, two people have died since the last published statistics on Monday, there were over 100 less new cases diagnosed in the over 60´s group and over 30 less hospitalizations.
According to medical experts the elimination of social distancing at mass events and fiestas will lead to a short, sharp seventh wave. Many people have also abandoned wearing mask altogether although they continue to be recommended in crowds, even outside, and in enclosed public spaces.
Statistics for the 24 hours ending at midngiht on Wednesday July 27
283 new cases (387)
309 hospitalizations (341)
13 in intensive care 16
2,370 deceased (2,368
Numbers in brackets are for Monday July 25.
The number of active cases registered in Calasparra over the past seven days was 13 in all groups and 13 in the over 60´s group.
In Caravaca in all groups over the past week there have been 39 cases; in Bullas six; in Cehegin 24; and in Moratalla 75.
Nexonr wishes all our readers happy and safe fiestas this weekend.
