TORRENTIAL RAIN COLLAPSES ROADS IN MURCIA REGION

Weeks of torrential rain is beginning to take its toll of regional roads and readers are warned of rocks and mudslides have already affected local roads in Caravaca del Cruz and Moratalla.
If journeys are essential readers are advised to take extreme care, especially on local roads where the rain may cause rocks and mud to fall onto the tarmac.
There are some road closures in the region due to flooding or, in one area, where a retaining wall has actually collapsed.
This is the case of the regional RM-E22, the road to the Puerto de Mazarrón, which joins Cartagena with Isla Plana and La Azohía. It is currently cut off at 9.8k point in the Cuestas del Cedacero, as a retaining wall has fallen onto the tarmac damaging the road.
The regional government has announced emergency repairs, however, an alternative route using the old national 332 for Cuesta Blanca and Tallante is recommended.
The T-561 Baños de Mula and the RM-F33 in San Pedro de Pinatar are also blocked due to flooding.
