Two rural roads in Calasparra will be reconditioned at a cost of more than 350,000 euros.
They are the Camino del Puerto and el Bayo (which runs in front of the station and down to the rice fields of Cañaverosa) and the Camino del Salgal.
The road, which runs in front of the station is tarmacked but is riddled with potholes and the Camino de Salgal is a dirt track which passes through rice fields and between the river Argos and river Segura and crosses the Berberin irrigation canal.
Work on the Camino del Puerto and Bayo will cost 323,400 euros and consists of improving the camber and renewing the surface over 6.2k as well as installing traffic signals and facilitating access to numerous farms, businesses and private houses.
Work on 805 metres of the Camino del Salgal, a dirt track which runs from the old bridge above the river beach and running parallel to the main road to Venta de Olivas, will cost 31,300 euros.
The project forms part of the Rural Development Programme of the Murcia region and is 63% funded by the EU, 26% by the regional government, and 11% by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fish and Food.
