After months of attacks from the opposition, Partido Popular, for not doing anything to reduce electricity bills, the Government is asking Congress to urgently approve two emergency measures.
They are two draft laws approved by the Committee of Government Ministers.
The first is the law of “retribution of CO2” by which the electricity companies will stop receiving 1,000 million euros. The funds will be diverted to help vulnerable consumers and to renewables energies.
The second is the Sustainability Fund, which will eliminate the tariff of 6,500 million euros costs on electricity.
The measures aim to reduce standing charges (those not directly linked to the amount a consumer uses) on electricity bills and reduce the extra income of the hydroelectric and nuclear companies.
